The French premier of the cult documentary on black metal and its adoptive country, Norway. Followed by a lecture
Church burnings, suicides, ritual murders, fanaticism: black metal is too often reduced to these clichés, which make for folkore and totems. Screened for the first time in France, this documentary sets things in perspective by precisely studying the Norwegian scene: that privileged territory of musical and ideological collisions. Behind the portraits of the two heroes of Norwegian metal, Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell sketch their own story of violence long associated with the genre, but without taking sides: that is the strong point of their film, as mighty and beautiful as the falling night (and a well-polished soundtrack: múm, Boards Of Canada, Black Dice, Sunn o))) and, of course, Mayhem and Burzum).
The projection will be followed by a discussion led by Benoît Hické with Nicolas Bénard, PhD in history, research fellow at the Centre d’histoire culturelle des sociétés contemporaines (Centre for Cultural History of contemporary societies, Université de Versailles - Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines) and author of La culture Hard Rock (Dilecta, 2008) and Métalorama, ethnologie d'une culture contemporaine (Rosières-en-Haye, Camion Blanc, February 2011).
