I Feel Disco

For the May Club Night, la Gaîté has concocted an evening placed under the sign of Disco, performed live and with DJs.

Gaîté Nights #2: I Feel Disco

House music's antie, electronic music's ancestor:  disco is without question one of the most important genres when it comes to dance music. Without trying to sound like an encyclopedia, we feel we must note that its rise in the late 70s marked several important transitions in the way music was conceived, performed and danced. Pieces grew longer, custom made for the dance floor and formatted to be played by DJs--formerly considered low ranking--, who became increasingly popular. In fact, the evolutions of the genre echoed the new recording techniques, with disco first being performed on real instruments that were gradually replaced by the early rhythm boxes and other synthesizers.

If the first tremors of the buzz generated by Daft Punk's much anticipated album are any indication, 2013 could very well be the year where disco revival comes out on top.  To celebrate, la Gaîté has decided to mix you a cocktail of programs with some of the best artists in the genre!

You weren't around for Studio 54? You miss the Paradise Garage? You long for the Palace?  La Gaîté invites you to dive back into that world and ambiance for an evening.  Don't be shy when it comes to selecting your outfit, for there is only one rule of thumb:  I Feel Disco!

Escort (live)

First, it is our honor to welcome ESCORT, a LIVE band from New York that brings back to life the wonderful days when disco was not just the realm of the DJs but also music played LIVE (like the Salsoul orchestra did in the 70s).

Pilooski

Famous for his awesome edits and his band Discodeine, Pilooski is the advocate of a darker and smarter vision of club music, but one that makes you want to party nonetheless.

Patrick Vidal

People often and mistakenly waive around the term "veteran" in reference to DJs with a few years under the belt.  You can't make that mistake when it comes to Patrick Vidal, an artist who experienced the golden days of disco when most of us weren't even born yet. This is a unique opportunity to discover one of the key artists of the Paris disco scene of yesteryear and to realize that good music never grows old.

Uncle O

After lighting up the big auditorium during the Toxic event, Uncle O, the cornerstone of the collective bearing the same name, returns to la Gaîté for a set that worships at the altar of disco.  Beware of the striking power of his edits of mass destruction.

Romain BNO

A DJ who has been part of the evolutions of the Parisian scene since the 80s, Romain BNO is without doubt one of its most symbolic figures.  Known for his electronic sets and productions, rumors are circulating about his collection of disco pieces, said to surpass all understanding... We can't wait to find out what kind of nuggets he's uncovered for us.
