"Nearly three years after the release of their debut 'If You Leave, Daughter' - the London-based trio of Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella - return in 2016 with a new album, entitled 'Not To Disappear'. 'Not To Disappear' is Daughter's second album and finds the band making confident strides forward both sonically and lyrically. Elena, Igor and Remi spent a summer in New York recording 'Not To Disappear' with Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, War On Drugs, Animal Collective) at his Rare Book Room studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Numbness and self-loathing sit deep at the album's core. There's no hiding from these songs: they know you inside out. It might - just - be a redemptive experience. Certainly, as Tonra flails for love among the ruins, you feel her shaking off the ghosts. 'Not to Disappear' is shattering throughout: a brooding sound board, crackling guitars, unsettling beats and Tonra buried in there somewhere, documenting unspeakable hurt, graphic and unfiltered." - Rough Trade
+ John Joseph Brill
Londoner John Joseph Brill left the capital – and his heavy-rock-band past – and moved to Liverpool in 2013 where he holed up with a pile of Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and David Bowie records in an attempt to find his true voice. The result was the Pieces EP – four songs of soul-bearing intimacy and sonic intensity all hung around Brill's brandy-warm baritone. It was released on Killing Moon in February 2015 to critical acclaim, gaining support from Radio 1, 6 Music and Beats 1, with Brill rounding off a busy summer with crowd-pulling sets at Reading and Leeds on the BBC Introducing stage. His electrifying live shows, the most recent supporting Richard Hawley, have won fans across the country and his first nationwide headline tour kicks off in November. A new EP, recorded at Liverpool's Elevator Studios, is due in the new year.
Ahead of the EP release, he’s previewed a new track - 'The Grape and The Grain'. Listen here
