Mohamed Abusal est né en 1976 à Gaza. Son travail d’artiste plasticien vise à mettre en lumière la réalité du quotidien des Palestinien·nes, tout en proposant des visions alternatives et optimistes d’un avenir meilleur. Diplômé en finance et en gestion, il s’est reconverti en tant qu’artiste en 2000 et a suivi de nombreux ateliers et mené des recherches approfondies afin de développer et d’affiner ses compétences artistiques. Depuis 2000, il travaille à un rythme intense, produisant des œuvres audacieuses et innovantes qui ont suscité un vif intérêt et reçu un accueil très favorable de la critique. Parmi ses projets, on peut citer Metro in Gaza (2012) et Shambar (2013) – des projets comprenant des installations, des créations graphiques et des photographies – qui traitent de la réalité de Gaza assiégée et envisagent un avenir meilleur – un avenir qui n’est pas seulement plausible, mais qui constitue un droit humain fondamental.
En 2002, il participe à la création du collectif d'artistes Eltiqa, qui a été présenté à la Documenta de Kassel en 2022. En 2005, il reçoit le prestigieux Prix Charles Aspry pour l’art contemporain. Il collabore depuis longtemps avec la scène artistique française. Ancien lauréat de la Cité des Arts à Paris et de la Fondation Camargo à Cassis, il a exposé à l’Institut du Monde Arabe dans le cadre de l’exposition « Ce que la Palestine apporte au monde » en 2023. En 2021, il a cofondé le collectif Hawaf, qui développe un musée virtuel pour Gaza, le Sahab Museum. Mohamed Abusal est boursier du Fonds de protection des artistes en résidence à l’IREMAM - AMU & MUCEM. Il est lauréat du programme PAUSE - France.
Mohamed Abusal was born in 1976 in Gaza. His work as a visual artist is to highlight the reality of the daily life of Palestinians, while offering alternative and optimistic visions of a better future. Although a graduate in finance and management, he retrained as an artist in 2000 and attended many workshops and has undertaken much research to develop and refine his artistic skills. Since 2000, he has worked at a prolific rate producing daring and innovative work which has attracted great publicity and garnered much critical acclaim. Projects have included Metro in Gaza (2012) and Shambar (2013) -concepts comprising installations, designs and photographs- that deal with the reality in besieged Gaza and envisioning a brighter future -a future that is not only plausible but a fundamental human right.
In 2002, he participated in the creation of the artist collective Eltiqa, which was presented at the Documenta in Kassel in 2022. In 2005, he received the prestigious Charles Aspry Prize for Contemporary Art. He has a long experience of collaboration with the French art community. A former laureate of the Cité des Arts in Paris and the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, he exhibited at the Institut du Monde Arabe in the exhibition "What Palestine brings to the world" in 2023. In 2021, he co-founded the Hawaf collective, which is developing a virtual museum for Gaza, the Sahab Museum. Mohamed Abusal is an Artist Protection Fund Fellow in residence at IREMAM - AMU & MUCEM. He is the laureate of the Program PAUSE - France.
