A firebrand skateboard magazine, this San Francisco-based publication has played a major role in sculpting skateboard's rebel and anti-establishment image. It celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. For this retrospective, the magazine presents a selection of the most iconic photos to have appeared in its pages (4th floor). Still, not quite sufficient for "the Bible" which is also reputed for its ferocious musical content. And so, Thrasher decided to pull out all the stops by inviting its followers to a special soirée with its favorite groups (Dinosaur Jr, The Goat, Bad Shit). History of celebrating in a dignified fashion three decades of "Skate and Destroy "! .
Dinosaur Jr performing Bug in its entirety (USA)
When we decided to organize this event around the skateboarding culture, the first group to meet everyone's immediate approval was Dinosaur Jr ! Masterfully led for 25 years by J Mascis and his acolytes Murf and Lou Barlow, Dinosaur Jr is one of the greatest stage groups, whose pieces often begin with incredible guitar solos. Thanks to its extremely close ties since its beginnings with one of the most bizarre and arty skateboard brands (Alien Workshop), thanks to the dawn of the 90s and to J mascis's very commendable skateboarding skills, Dinosaur Jr has become a musical myth of skateboarding culture. A single statistic to prove it: Dinosaur Jr music can be found in no less than 28 skate video soundtracks!
The Goat (USA)
The Goat is the somewhat banned version of boy band trash by celebrity skaters. This real band of buds, who came together around the universe of skateboard brands they had set up (Deathwish, Shake Junt…) counts no less than two active pro skaters (Andrew Reynolds and Kevin "Spanky" Long), a famous photographer of The Skateboard Mag and, screaming at the top of his voice, the very grimacing Shane Heyl… With such characters, it is not surprising that The Goat could seduce the most hardcore of skateboarding mags, Thrasher, and have it declare them special invitees for its 30th anniversary. The Goat is the promise of an explosive, sweat drenching set, between the spontaneity of the hardcore punk of its origins and the more mainstream influences of groups such as ESG and the English of The Fall.
Bad Shit (USA)
Bad Shit had no difficulty being invited for the 30 years of Thrasher: its singer is… Thrasher's editor-in-chief, the legendary Jake Phelps. Known for his big mouth, closing in on his fifties, the man with the bandaged, horn-rimmed spectacles makes no concessions and will always carry the torch of the nihilist, anti-sport, anti-all skateboard. When he decided to form a group, he did not take it lightly, choosing the Sid and Nancy of skateboarding: Tony Trujillo (pro for Antihero skateboards) and his wife Trixie, drummer, skater and… housewife! Bad Shit? It is the primal cry of hardcore skate, edgy, punk devil, raw and brutal!
