I am a Camera

Inspiringly odd concept, which takes the notion of ‘auteur’ to a whole new biological level. Lake and Evans each ingested a frame of 35mm film in order to find out what the passage of the celluloid through their bodies would look like when later developed in the photo lab. The result is a surreal yet strangely recognizable series of black and white landscapes, which could be an electronmicroscopic image or equally a photo of mars taken from space.
Oben
Oben (France, 2012) by Thierno Bah, Noé Giuliani, Pierre Ledain, David Martins da Silva
A collaborative graduation film from the EMCA animation school in Angoulême (France), where a bear of a mountaineer braves a sheer icy rock face and comes undone. His battle between life or death literally hangs by both a rope and a stethoscope. His version of heaven appears to resemble the pinnacle of the perfect mountain he has been attempting to summit.
Zen, Soyons Zen
Zen, Soyons Zen (France, 2012) by Armelle Renac
Vintage Photo gifs

Student Weir seeks out old European photography, then uses his ace photoshop skills to turn them into animated gifs. From Russian monks who shapeshift into psychedelic bears, to a murderous building in Brussels and a stern old Victorian lady who vanishes into a cloud of ominous black birds, the images are surprising and often amusing within their own micro narratives.
Ishihara
Ishihara (Israel, 2010) by Yoav Brill
A recent graduate film from the new wave of Israeli talent, Brill’s film has been shown at film festivals all over the world. He explores the notion of being colour blind and how it affects a boy growing up in a close community on a Kibbutz. By using the graphically minimal style of optician’s visual test cards, the film explores what the world must look like for someone who cannot see red.
Graduation film from Bezalel, the Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.
